Why do so many people keep calling it TCP/IP ? [..] what's so special about TCP that people keep referring to it that way?
It’s not that TCP is special, but that the TCP protocol rides on top of IP and thus the name. The slash in the name can be read as “over” so TCP/IP is really “TCP over IP”.
