Personal Computer Interface Bus

The PCI bus is used to connect peripheral cards to the mainboard. There are slots in the mainboard that are used to interface the physical bus wiring to the peripheral card. These slots are white and have a single divider one third down from the right end of the slot.

The PCI bus is relatively slower speed. It is generally used for low speed devices such as modems, serial expansion ports etc. but a wide variety of devices are available to fit PCI slots including video cards, sound cards, modems, network cards, RAID and SCSI adaptors and more.
