Default Gateway
A default gateway is a routing device to which your local computer forwards packets which are not destined for hosts on the local network. The default gateway is used to communicate with all hosts that are not on the local network.

Discovering Your Default Gateway

WIndows ipconfig Command

If your computer runs Windows, you can use the ipconfig command from the command prompt (DOS prompt).

C:\Documents and Settings\joe.smith>ipconfig

 	Windows IP Configuration

 	Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

 Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : saaridin.local
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.67.8
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.67.1
