DSL Terminology

ATC-U

ADSL Tranciever Unit at the provider's central office.

DMT

Discreet Multi-Tone line code. This is the signalling method used by the various types of DSL.

DSLAM

Digital Subscriber Line Access Module. Also known as the ATC-U.

POTS

Plain Old Telephone Service. This is a standard telephone line. See also PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network)

Splitter

A passive low pass filter designed to split the low frequency voice signal from the high frequency DSL signal.
