Digital Signalling System

The Digital Signalling system forms the basis of the modern telephone system. The old telephone system was analog and used electromechanical switches to connect calls. Voice lines were shared amongst all the users.

and used simple translation of the sound of human voice to electrical current. The digital signalling system was developed to increase the capacity of the phone system which was rapidly becoming overwhelmed.
