Internet Message Access Protocol

Internet Message Access Protocol is one of several protocols defined to allow a remote client to access mail stored on a mailbox server but does not provide the means to send mail. The ability to send mail is provided by other protocols such as Simple Main Transfer Protocol (SMTP) or X.400.
