Local Printer vs. Network Printer

A local printer is a printer attached to your computer via the USB or printer port. A network printer is connected the network and your computer uses the network to access the printer.

Installing a Printer in Windows

Windows computers automatically recognize a broad range of devices from major manufacturers. Windows may have a basic driver that will operate your printer, but not all the features may be available. It is always advisable to download and install the manufacturer's latest drivers from the manufacturer's website.

  1. Download the driver software from the manufacturer's website
  2. Install the driver
  3. Plug in the printer, and Windows will complete the installation.
